Protective shield
The protective shield was designed as a specialized tool for firefighters operating in high-risk areas. It combines protective functions with the ability to simultaneously conduct visual and thermal imaging surveillance and perform firefighting operations thanks to its nozzle mount. The equipment is lightweight and can be operated by a single rescuer.
The design’s unique feature is its hybrid integration:
• protective shield,
• visor with a video camera,
• video camera (optional),
• thermal imaging camera (optional),
• universal mount for a water nozzle.
There are no comparable patents in the EU/USPTO databases—existing ballistic shields do not combine thermal imaging with firefighting components in firefighting applications.
Applications and Configuration
The shield allows rescuers to approach safely in situations where there is a high risk of explosion, sudden pressure release, flying debris, or contact with extremely high temperatures.
Examples of use:
• monitoring cylinder temperatures in fire zones (e.g., acetylene),
• fires involving combustible metals: magnesium, sodium, potassium, aluminum, titanium,
• electric vehicle fires – safe approach for installing a battery cooling system,
• explosion and shrapnel hazard zones,
• incidents involving hazardous substances,
• counterterrorism operations,
• searching for dangerous individuals at night in open areas
Configuration and components:
• two ergonomic stainless steel handles (with forearm mounting option),
• mounting holes for video and thermal imaging cameras (viewfinder),
• water nozzle mount with 0–90° angle adjustment,
• side legs allowing it to function as a freestanding shield,
• lower stainless steel strip with serrated edges for increased stability,
• additional handle enabling full mobility and stability of the shield, regardless of the rescuer’s height and arm reach
